Emergency Staffing and Services

Macon Community Hospital has a 9-bed emergency department open 24-hours a day, seven days a week. The emergency department is staffed by qualified and experienced physicians, nurses, and support staff. Department personnel are licensed and trained to deliver emergency medical care to people experiencing all types of medical emergencies in Macon County and the surrounding communities.

The department houses state-of-the-art medical equipment needed to care for a wide variety of emergencies. In-house diagnostic testing with quick turn-around times is available to assist the emergency care team in arriving at an accurate and timely diagnosis.

After an initial medical evaluation, the emergency department staff facilities a discharge home, admission to the inpatient portion of the hospital, or a transfer to another facility if a higher level of specialty care is needed. The staff includes patients and family members in the decision-making process through each stage of the visit.

The Emergency Experience

We want the patients and families arriving at our Emergency Department to know what experience to expect while you are in our care.

You will be triaged by a Registered Nurse on your arrival and will be provided with necessary stabilizing treatments and interventions based on your emergency severity index score.

You will be evaluated by the Emergency Department Physican who will order any needed diagnostic tests and prescribe medical treatments as necessary for your condition.

The registration staff are trained to help check you in for your visit and to help you with insurance registration questions. Audio and Video translations services are available on demand to assist with any communication needs throughout your visit to the department.

After an initial medical evaluation, the emergency department staff will help facilitate a discharge home, an admission to the inpatient portion of the hospital, or a transfer to another facility if a higher level of specialty care is needed.

The emergency department staff works together with multiple area medical centers to facilitate any needed transfers to other medical facilities. The staff will coordinate emergency medical transportation by ground or air to these facilities as is medically necessary.

Quality Care

The emergency department staff at Macon Community Hospital strives to deliver high quality and compassionate care to individuals in our community. We desire for the quality of medical care and customer service provided to our patients to meet or exceed industry and CMS standards, as well as consumer expectations. Regular inspections and visits to the department by private, governmental, and certifying bodies help ensure and demonstrate this commitment to our patient population. Though a trip to the emergency department for care is typically unplanned and can be stressful, it is always our desire for everyone to have a positive patient experience in our emergency department.
