Speech Therapy Services

Certified Speech Language Pathologists Amy Algood and Lauren Hammer offer specialized treatments for patients dealing with a variety of speech or language issues. For each patient, a thorough analysis is conducted to determine the primary source of a speech-related condition, followed by the development of a customized treatment plan based on each patient’s needs.

Early intervention is key when addressing many types of speech-related conditions including treatments for dyslexia or other reading issues, autism, dysphagia, cognitive therapy for strokes and much more. Our therapists are trained to target these and other areas to help patients improve their language skills and feel more confident in their speech and communication capabilities.

Occupational Therapy

Our Occupational Therapy program is designed to help patients of all ages regain independence and confidence in their daily activities. Whether you’re recovering from surgery, healing after an injury, or managing a chronic condition, our therapists focus on restoring the skills needed for everyday living.

Treatment may include improving strength, coordination, and fine motor skills, as well as teaching adaptive techniques or recommending assistive devices to make daily tasks easier.

With a compassionate, patient-centered approach, our occupational therapists create personalized plans that empower patients to do what matters most — whether it’s cooking a meal, getting dressed, or returning to the hobbies and routines they enjoy.

Our compassionate team provides physical, occupational, and speech therapy designed just for children, helping them grow, thrive, and reach their full potential. BIG and LOUD® Program

Macon Community Hospital is proud to offer the BIG and LOUD® Program, a nationally recognized therapy designed specifically for individuals with Parkinson’s disease. This innovative program addresses two common challenges: movement and speech.

The BIG component focuses on exaggerated, large-scale movements to improve mobility, balance, posture, and overall physical function. Patients practice purposeful, amplified motions that help counteract the small, stiff movements often caused by Parkinson’s.

The LOUD component emphasizes vocal exercises to increase volume, clarity, and communication confidence. Many patients notice significant improvements in speaking ability, social engagement, and overall quality of life.

Led by certified therapists trained in the BIG and LOUD® approach, this program provides structured, evidence-based care in a supportive, encouraging environment. It’s designed to help patients move more freely, speak more clearly, and regain confidence in daily life — all close to home.
