“I got my birthday wish: a healthier heart!”

— James Warner

James Warner (center) was having trouble breathing when he came to the Emergency Department at Macon Community Hospital on June 20, 2018. “I just couldn’t catch my wind,” James remembers.

Diagnosed with congestive heart failure, a medical condition in which fluid builds up around the heart and causes it to pump inefficiently, James had to stay in the hospital for a week. During that time, he celebrated his 71st birthday, and the medical staff provided medications to remove the fluid that was causing his heart to not function properly.

Dr. Olufemi Odunusi (left), an internal medicine physician with Macon Community Hospital, saw James every day during his stay.

James was amazed at the level of care he received. “Let me tell you something,” he says. “I’ve been to several hospitals and Macon Community Hospital is my #1 choice. You won’t get better care anywhere. It’s just outstanding. I’m sold on it. All of the nurses were great. They checked on me all the time, and Lucy Green (right) was super good at taking care of me. Nobody wants to spend their birthday in the hospital, but the staff made my time there as enjoyable as it could be. When it comes to people who care, I would pick Macon Community Hospital over any hospital in the country!”
