“Thanks to Dr. O, I’m A-OK after my heart attack!”

Paul Filson (left) has special place in his heart for Dr. Olufemi Odunusi (known by everyone as Dr. O), an internist with Macon Community Hospital. The 66-year-old retired truck driver suffered a major heart attack this past February. “I was coughing real bad and hurting in my chest. But the flu was everywhere at the time, so I thought that was the problem or maybe pneumonia or a pulled muscle.”

It was Dr. O who detected an irregular pattern in Paul’s EKG. “Macon Community Hospital definitely saved my life!” says Paul. “If Dr. O had not found out what was going on, I would not be around today. I had between 80 and 90 percent blockage in my coronary arteries and needed six stents to repair my heart.”

For Paul, Macon Community Hospital is like an old friend. “I’ve trusted this hospital many times,” says Paul. “I’ve had my gallbladder removed here and needed to go to the ER once, which is now being expanded to offer even better service. And I have to say this is one great hospital with great people. I can’t think of a better place to go for medical care. It’s just a good feeling to know that I don’t have to leave Lafayette the next time I need to go to a hospital.”
