2018 was filled with many challenges for Brittany Law (right). That January, she noticed a lump under her right armpit. “I didn’t think much about it,” Brittany says. “Then, about three weeks later, I woke up with a sharp pain in my right breast that felt like pins and needles.”

Brittany went to see her primary care physician, Dr. Olufemi Odunusi (left). After examining Brittany, he ordered a series of radiology tests, including an ultrasound and a mammogram, which were performed at the hospital. They indicated that Brittany had a four-inch mass in her right breast. A biopsy performed by Dr. Thomas Taylor confirmed the diagnosis: Stage III breast cancer. Brittany then underwent surgery at Macon Community Hospital to have a chemotherapy port implanted under her skin.

This past December, after six rounds of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and 28 radiation treatments, Brittany finally finished her cancer treatment. Today, her prognosis is excellent. “The entire staff at Macon Community Hospital has been so supportive during my entire treatment,” Brittany says. “They’ve even sent me letters and called me to offer their encouragement. To me, it was so comforting to know that we have the technology, right here at Macon Community Hospital, which allowed my care team to make an immediate diagnosis. I’m so thankful for everything this hospital has done for me.”
